If you're using a 50/50 propylene glycol mix for purposes such as snow melting, then the pump would work. To assure that cast iron components do not corrode over time, the system has to be "closed", meaning that there should be an air eliminator in the system and no access of oxygenated (fresh) water. For example, if using PEX tubing, only use the oxygen barrier type PEX as it prevents diffusion of oxygen into the system water through the pipe walls (vs. non-barrier). As for controls, the pump has a built-in switching relay, which allows to control it using a regular 24V thermostat.
