I have a Grendfos UP10-16BU/ATLC pump. In the online description, it says head range 0-5.4 ft. In the installation instructions it says max system head 4.9 ft. I have 5 ft 1 inch. Is that a problem?

The general understanding should be that 5ft of head is the maximum for this hot water recirculation pump and at that head, the pump will produce nearly zero flow. For proper operation of the circulator, the total system head (elevation plus friction drop) should be below 4.5ft combined.
If you think the pump is too small for your application, it's best to choose a different model bronze circulator and purchase a separate timer and aquastat - both available on our website. Answered on 5/9/2012 by PexUniverse Customer Service
I just bought a Grundfos UP10-16BU/ATLC pump to circulate hot water from and back to the heater. I think the pump goes on the return line before the water reenters at the bottom of the heater. Is this right, and as to efficiency of the pump, is one place better than another?

Grundfos Comfort pumps are best located at the end of the dedicated hot water return line before it enters the water heater. More details on installation can be found here: Grundfos Comfort Series Installation Manual (PDF file) Answered on 5/8/2012 by PexUniverse Customer Service

This model is designed for installation on a dedicated hot water return line. The model you're probably looking for is Grundfos UP15-10SU7P/TLC - this one is designed for installation under the sink and does not require any return lines. Answered on 5/8/2012 by PexUniverse Customer Service |
